HEARSAY
Singapore International Festival of Arts, Singapore - 2025
Hearsay is an open-ended exercise that invites participants to join in a collective act of weaving—a metaphorical and literal creation of shelter, shade, and connection. This project calls upon the communal act of weaving, not as a traditional craft of the local culture, but as an instinctive, universally shared practice found across various global communities. If we ever had it, that was quickly lost in the progress of the little nation.
Leaning into the imagined nostalgia of Bedok—hearsay, there used to be boat racing, beautiful sunsets at jetties, a row of coconut trees. Hearsay, fish were caught fresh off the coast. Hearsay, hearsay.
Weaving hopefully becomes a way to allow stories to flow, memories of the past, and musing about a different layered history. Stories about Bedok and the idilic coastal life they spoke about.

Layout by Temporary Unit
A rambling of historical and present day accounts collected from people at Bedok, Reddit and archival material.
This is a reaction to the everchanging landscapes in our country. The bedok of the 60s, the bedok of the present. The bedok in memory and the day-to-day version.
To chatter and gossip upon the different versions we each hold.

To different heights and posture
To work collectively on a larger canopy structure or to sit and explore weave freely.

Structure of coconut leaves are raised on a pulley system.
